BlackBerry Applies for 180 Degree Hinge Patent for Convertable Flip Phone

Hinge BlackBerry.jpg

BlackBerry has never really been known for pushing the envelope with their folding or transforming smartphone designs like the Pearl Flip, Torch, Style, and others. Still their latest patent application for a 180 degree rotating hinge on a smartphone is definitely thinking out of the box. It kind of makes me think of a PlayBook that could transform into a laptop of sorts. Maybe even as a slick case. Who knows if anything like this is ever going to release but it is always fun to dream.

  1. Hmmm… I don’t like that design for a laptop/tablet, the keyboard is too narrow, but it’s even weirder on a phone because of the angle the screen has.

  2. I wonder how the fuel cell patent is working out?

  3. I’m still hoping for a Torch 9800/9810 style BB10

  4. i was hoping for something like an attachment piece to make a physical keyboard for when you want it.

maybe a 2 fold case. open just the case or open the case and keyboard to open up for the full touch.

a kb is awesome but sometimes you just need real estate.

  5. Hmm, the hinges look a little clunky and fraigile. I hope they smooth this out if there oin to bring it to market. We need a slider BB10 pronto.
