BlackBerry made quite a few people happy when they announced that BlackBerry 10 would be getting Skype. Considering how long it took Microsoft to get Skype on their own platform and their troubles with it its no surprise to learn that its going to be a port. Bla1ze @CrackBerry spotted this line on the Skype website that states that:

If you have a new BlackBerry smartphone powered by the BlackBerry 10 platform, you will soon be able to download and run Skype on these devices. We are working closely with BlackBerry to ensure the Skype for Android app runs great in the BlackBerry 10 environment.

That seems to confirm that it is an Android port that is being reworked to work on BlackBerry 10 with the camera. Leading up to launch we had received quite a few tips that this was coming along with the screenshots shown from a Dev Alpha above. Either way I hope it works nicely.

  1. is this going to be a wifi only deal ?

  2. Sadly, I think this is terrible. 🙁 Does this mean Microsoft values it’s main competitor on ALL aspects Google more than Blackberry to spend a few days to completely port this over to BB?

  3. All that happened before Microsoft purchased Skype. Since the purchase they have been unsuccessfully trying to make it work well in Windows phone but that has been a failure. I think it’s impressive that BlackBerry convinced them to even do the port.

  4. “its no surprise to learn that its going to be a port” What is a port in this context
