One of the most important specs for cameras is what is know as the aperture or f-stop. This number essentially tells you how much light the camera lens lets in allowing the camera to take pictures faster causing less blurriness. The lower the number the better camera you have. I have confirmed from a few friends at BlackBerry and using EXIF data from my pictures that the BlackBerry Z10 is packing a camera with a f/2.2 aperture which is amazing. It explains how the BlackBerry Z10 is able to take pictures instantly.
This becomes even more impressive when you compare it to the iPhone 5 which only has a f/2.4 lens aperture and the Samsung Galaxy S3 with its f/2.6 aperture. The iPhone 5 makes up for their weaker f-stop with their image signal processor (ISP) that massages the picture and tries to squeeze up to 2 more “stops” worth of data out of nearby pixels and acts like a software filter of each picture taken. It works quite well and makes me wonder if BlackBerry can implement something similar in the BlackBerry 10 OS.
PS: BlackBerry needs to update the EXIF data on their pictures. It still calls it the Research in Motion BlackBerry Z10
