RIM just had another blowout Port-A-Thon this weekend. They topped last week by bringing in 19,071 apps in the 36+ hours the Port-A-Thon ran. This easily sets them up for the 70,000+ apps for BlackBerry 10’s launch. Alec Saunders also confirmed that only a “Tiny %age of the catalog have been built using BBAG” so these are not just BlackBerry App Generator RSS feeds.
Can’t wait to see what we have in App World!

From what I have heard, only about 20% are RSS feeds. Which implies that the weekend brought in 15,000+ legit apps…

I received word that BB World will have 70,000 apps at launch and guaranteed to have 100,000 by June of 2013…

I think Alec is sugar coating it, but if it’s really only 20% of RSS apps, then it’s not too bad. I think lots of devs tried to port their apps from other platforms.

Apparently bbag alone is responsible for over 25% of the submitted apps, with 5000 apps submitted in 36h. Add to that the other apps generated from quiz makers and in-house generators and you have lots of garbage…
Still, lots of older, quality Android apps have been converted, so it will be an interesting launch.
