Advance OS and LED aka Super Duper Utility App

munch_2013_01_07_192154

I love wallpaper. I like mixing things up between BlackBerry pride (thanks to our good friend @Pootermobile), beautiful scenery and my sports team. Its not too tough to go to my pictures and change things manually, but its a lot nicer to have an app do it all for you. I realize there are apps for this out there already. Did you know that Advance OS and LED has this feature among many others? A few days ago, Advance OS and LED was updated to version 16.1.2. I went through my usual routine of scouring the app looking for changes and found some very cool features that were there all along. I had previously been using the app for the wallpapers feature, device optimizer, and time/date menu feature.

Advance OS and LED is much more than and LED customizer, which is baked into the most recent BlackBerry OS’s anyway. Here are a few I think deserve a shout out.

Wallpaper Feature

The wallpaper switcher is great for wallpaper fans. Simply go to Operating System Utilities and open Wallpapers.

A new folder is automatically created where you can put all the pictures you want the app to cycle through. Other options are shown above. Love it!

Device Optimizer

This one is pretty straight forward. It sets a regular cleaning schedule to keep memory and caches clean as a whistle.

AutoText Backup/Export

If you have a lot of AutoText entries it can be a pain re-entering them when you switch devices. This makes it easy to backup your entries and even export them as a text file.

Attachment Auto Download

I came across this one when I was re-checking things before this post. This auto download feature allows you to set your device to get email attachments automatically. You have the option to store them on your device memory or SD card

A folder is created called email attachments where everything is stored. This is more of a convenience that I’m not sure I’m sold on. I don’t mind picking and choosing which attachments to download.

Settings Backup/Restore

One of the coolest features of this app is the ability to backup and restore your settings. The annoying thing about such feature-rich apps such as this is trying to remember all of your settings everytime you reload the OS, switch devices, or do an update. The backup/restore settings feature is the only one I have found so far that is only available in the Pro version of Advance OS and LED. At $1.99 it’s a great price and a way to thank the developer, Sultan Al Sooz, for all of his work.

Did everyone already know about these features? Which ones did I miss that you use? Also, let’s put our heads together to try to figure out a more fitting name for this jam packed app. I’ll start things off…Every utility you didn’t know you needed but you do app of awesomeness. Open-mouthed smile

For you wallpaper addicts, here are some of my faves from Pootermobile. These are the 640×480 (9900, 9930) versions but there are some for everyone, including PlayBook.

  1. Attachment auto-download is a cool feature but there should definitely be an option to do it on Wi-Fi only. I have a 200 MB plan. I would not want to auto download attachments over the mobile network.

  2. Been using this app for a while now… so much features the $1.99 you pay for the Pro version is BEYOND worth it!

  3. The Sultan of Apps never ceases to make me smile “_

  4. Hoping to see Sultan on The Ten …
