Another day, another present from the BlackBerry community. The complaint I hear the most from PlayBook users, or people who want to purchase a PlayBook is ‘Does it have BBM?’ or ‘ I can’t believe it doesn’t have BBM’. Yes, we can use bridge if we are current BIS/BES subscribers, but that is not the case for a lot of people. And that still doesn’t support groups either.
Well here is some good news from BBOta.cn, they claim that BlackBerry 10 will be launching next month on the PlayBook, and within that will be native BlackBerry Messenger, with full chat and video support. This would coincide with a rumour I heard a couple weeks ago from an insider, that RIM was going to release BlackBerry 10 on the PlayBook two weeks before the BlackBerry 10 phone launch as a marketing strategy. Lets see what all plays out!

Wow, before the devices? I was just telling someone the other day that the last rumors I had heard was that the PB would get BB10 some time mid/late 2013, after the devices. Very cool!

Well, @BlckBerryDev said a beta would be released shortly after the phones come to market… We shall wait and see!

This would be a brilliant move on RIMM’s part and. A win win for them; not only woud this allow the consumers to sort of beta test BB10 before it comes out and build momentum, this will also definitely boost PlayBook sales.

If this is true, I hope BlackBerry 10 would be a lot faster than PB 2.1.
Since 2.1, my web browser works better but man, is it slow…from opening the keyboard to loading pages.
I hope it would work much faster, ligher and with native BlackBerry Messenger.

Same. Can’t be any worse than 2.1. I am stunned that RIM is allowing the PlayBook to suffer like this, especially over the holiday season — busiest shopping time of the year? I know the have bigger priorities, but…

They’re continuing to hurt the PlayBooks reputation!

“RIM was going to release BlackBerry 10 on the PlayBook two weeks before the BlackBerry 10 phone launch as a marketing strategy.”
I’ve been saying they should do something like that! Could this be the Beta we have been informed over twitter? Or did they decide to give us full fledged BB10? o.0

There is no way this will occur, no way. Why kill all the buzz from their jan 30 event when they’ve gone to such lengths to keep so much quiet

Maybe, but when you have a playbook that works very well with a new phone aka BB10, you will have a killer combination again, this is all rumors and time will only tell.
Anyways, it’s coming sooner or later and the sooner the better.

I would think it would be easier to release BBM early now that it is driven by BBID.

I know getting BB10 on playbook before the 30th would be mind blowing but it’s now going to happen. The launch will be the big unlenshing everything.

If the annoucement doesn’t have everything we are expecting for the playbook, will people move on you think?

PlayBook OS has morphed into BlackBerry 10. BB10 has many more apps than PlayBook OS and a thriving ecosystem. Why wouldn’t people switch?

Anyone know what that “person” icon in the status bar is?

It would have to be BBM. Same icon in the screenshot of the open BBM screen.
