RIM, Apple, & Google in Group to Buy Kodak’s Patents

rim_logo_blue

RIM joined in with a group of other companies including Google and Apple to buy certain patents from Eastman Kodak Co for about $525 million. Bloomberg broke the news about the group led by Intellectual Ventures Management and RPX Corp along with 12 patent licensees. Facebook, Microsoft Amazon, Fujifilm, Adobe, and more were also involved though this was not for the full portfolio. Kodak needs the money to get out of bankruptcy. Check out the details here. Hopefully this means the end of RIM’s patent trouble with Kodak even though Kodak kept on getting their patents invalidated.

  1. Now Google and Apple can sue the crap out of each other while BlackBerry cleans up! ;)

  2. If RIM is that desperate for money as some on the Street say, how are they still buying patents? Q3 results can’t be as bad as the Street is suggesting :)

  3. Kodak was hoping for five times as much. With only $525M Kodak looks to finally be done for…
