Survey Finds Majority of Users Will Upgrade to BlackBerry 10

I am still in a bit of a daze when I read analyst reports that are bullish on RIM. The latest is from The Street (via N4BB) that explains why RIM is different from Palm and its all about the installed base. The author Eric Jackson, founder and Managing Member of Ironfire Capital, found that:

According to surveys that Scotia Capital analyst Gus Papageorgiou has seen, 70% of existing RIM subscribers plan to upgrade. That would be massive and I can’t quite imagine that’s possible even in my wildest dreams. However, 30-40 million out of 80 million seems very doable (including a few million of completely new BlackBerry subscribers).

In short this is another analyst that is bullish on RIM being able to convert a large portion of their current subscribers. That includes RIM’s ~8 million customers in the US.

  1. I’d like to see those surveys..
70% of existing users in the US and Canada, maybe, but the new phones will be out of reach for most of RIM’s user base until they launch the cheap devices and that will take time. Will those users wait another 9 months? Possibly, if they’re on 2 years contracts.

  2. Of course we’ll upgrade. We’ve waited for this for some time now. I’ve already told our clerk (the one that pays our bills) to be ready to buy some some new Berry’s come February/March. Everybody’s getting one!

  3. I represent 70% of BlackBerry users, and we’ll be upgrading next year 😉

I don’t know who those airhead are, but a considerable number of current users will upgrade, but RIM will win back some users who have left for seemingly greener pastures.

BBM has nice features but RIM must make sure the product is stable, robust, and reliable!

  4. My upgrade is due late March so, I can wait…

  5. Will hold on to my Storm 2 for as long as it will have juice. Am not a heavy user, just calls, sms, gtd/productivity, social networking sites, and media. Of course, will be upgrading to BB10 when the time is right (meaning, when wifey approves me a budget 😀 )
