I had an interview with Vivek Bhardwaj & Jeff Holleran at RIM’s NYC offices this week (more on that later) and during the demo they showed off a feature I didn’t see highlighted before. The BlackBerry PlayBook Video Chat app lets you see which of your contact have video chat so you can add them to your chat list. BBM on BlackBerry 10 takes this one step further and scans all of your contacts and shows you which of your contacts have BBM. You then are able to easily invite them to be on your contact list.
They call this the BBM Recommended contacts tab and it works nicely. It does not share the other users PIN but does allow you to invite them. Its so genius that I am surprised RIM didn’t do it earlier… It will be even more useful when BBM usage starts exploding in 2013.
Vivek also stated that there are quite a bit of big changes coming to BBM with BlackBerry 10 though it will maintain backwards compatibility with the current BBM.
Also of interest was how BBM Groups display on Vivek’s build:
