RIM Porting App World PlayBook Apps to BlackBerry 10 – Rewarding Developers

RIM BlackBerry 10 Porting

A few developers let us know about a personalized yet scripted email they received from RIM recently. RIM seems to be testing BlackBerry PlayBook apps on BlackBerry 10 and if they work (many do) they are contacting the developers. They are offering to do all the heavy lifting for the developers and will automatically port your app to be available for BlackBerry 10 without you lifting a finger.

Better yet RIM has sweetened the deal by giving developers an automatic “I’m building for BlackBerry 10 Badge” on their BlackBerry DevZone Rewards account which gives them 500 rewards points. These reward points can be redeemed for either a BlackBerry hoodie, $50 shopblackberry gift certificate, or a BlackBerry messenger bag. Pretty nice deal!

Let us know if you have received a similar email from RIM or if you have not and have a PlayBook app in App World.

  1. Many may see this as a cool offer. Me? I see it as desperate. But I’m not complaining. Please do whatever is necessary RIM to increase app numbers. We BB users know all too well how pathetic the number of apps currently are.

  2. Most of the devs I heard from thought this was nice because they didn’t need to recompile their games since they support fluid resolution. I agree that RIM is doing it to ensure more apps available at launch

    • I hope they do a good job at it. Some apps are still compatible with OS 1 not even OS 2 so, if they fix all that to be compatible with BB 10 I’d be really grateful.

  3. Yes, we’ve received an e-mail from RIM, we have Photo Studio for PlayBook and this app has been tested on BB10, but we have issues with it. Hope we’ll fix them soon.

  4. A post like this worries me. If you need to take apps directly from Playbook(many of which are cheap copies of IOS/Android apps), then it’s not looking good for BB10. What happened to the BB10 upgrade for the Playbook?

  5. Yea I received the same message from bb10apptestingteam@rim.com about this offer. But I wonder what are the specifics for the program though.

    • My app is Flypad Notes please check it out in the AppWorld I have already tested my app on my Dev Alpha Device for BB10 and it works very well.
