In case you have missed some of Apple’s latest “ground breaking features” let me introduce you to Passbook. Apple’s new iOS 6 added an application called Passbook that centralizes and manages your mobile tickets, loyalty cards, and coupons. Essentially it just stores a few pieces of information along with a QRCode or barcode in a JSON file which is shown by Apple’s Passbook app. This information is usually passed along in emails as a PKPass standard file and is pretty easy to parse. Passbook on iOS just shows this information in a visually appealing manner. Magic right?
A little bit back Attido Mobile brought their PassWallet app to Android which allowed you to open these same PKPass files on your phone. Now BBNews.pl noticed that PassWallet is also available for BlackBerry smartphones. I have not had a chance to try it out myself but if this sort of thing interests you check out PassWallet free in App World.

This install method worked fine on my 9900, now I’m evaluating the suggested passbook sites. Will keep you posted once I get beyond the creation phase. Thanks for developing the app.

What issues do you have with Android Runtime apps on BlackBerry? They seemed to work pretty well when we’ve tried it.

Apologies to the 9900/9930 users. During submission an error occurred when RIM tested on a 9900 device that we’ve been unable to reproduce.
If anyone is volunteering to help, send an email to “blackberry at attidomobile.com” and we can send you a test build that will either work on your device or create a log file that will help us track down the issue.

Tried it. Cant get it to work, i always get the browser that pop ups, cant add any cards. This is rubbisch folks, not available for playbook to (and no i dont want an android port) i was looking forward to test this but this is a huge bummer. Read the reviews on app world an you will see there are a lot of problems.

Sorry you’ve had issues. If you click on a link to download a pass, does PassWallet not open it?

No it didn’t. The only thing it does is opening the brower a few times. Tried some of the partners from the site that pop ups, nothing worked. I ended up with a few passes on my bb but I can not open one of them.

And if you save it and then open the download?

Everytime I open the app it opens a website and that’s it. Wheb I go back to the app it opens a new tab in the browser with the same website. So I ended up with 20 times the same page in my browser and an app that gets me frustrated.

But have you tried opening the app by clicking on a pass file? Not via the icon on the menu.

I have passes stored on my bb and on my mem card.

When you click on a file/attachment/link the pass will be imported into PassWallet.
Some websites, depending on how the HTTP header is setup will download the file first and you can then open the file from the download list.
