RIM Rumored To Be Showing BlackBerry 10 on The PlayBook & Motorola Xoom

BB10 Design Guidelines2

When I first heard of this I was skeptical but another source has come up and corroborated parts of the story. BB_unleashed let us know in the forums that RIM is showing partners BlackBerry 10 demos running on the PlayBook for testing purposes. They were showing off multitasking along with a homescreen with six live tiles instead of the BlackBerry 10 smartphones 4 tiles. Supposedly they also presented BlackBerry 10 on a Motorola Xoom to show the licensing possibilities. This was all done for a large developer to get them to consider developing for BlackBerry 10. This is all still in rumorville so take it with a grain of salt but it is promising to hear that RIM already has licensing possibilities worked out for BlackBerry 10. I doubt Motorola will be a partner due to it being acquired by Google but it is cool to hear that it is running on an NVIDIA Tegra processor.

Check out the conversation in the forums for more details. The picture below is super fuzzy but BB_unleashed took it with a BlackBerry Bold with the zoom set all the way up of the PlayBook in portrait mode on the projector. Still its nice to speculate what is happening behind closed doors…

  1. Hmmm is it possible for RIM to licence BlackBerry 10 only for tablets?

  2. No interest in licensing BB10. Just want it on RIM’s awesome hardware.
I really wish RIM would allow some non RIM folks to give some feedback on the UI. They can sign a non-disclosure and provide some input.
They must get it right. For example, simple things like how it handles notifications (PB does a poor job compared with BB7), shutdown & startup times, scalability concerns (managing 5 or 6 running apps), app delays & device latency, intuitive gestures, ease of switching & managing apps,

For example, simple things like how it handles notifications (PB does a poor job compared with BB7), shutdown & startup times, scalability concerns (managing 5 or 6 running apps), app delays & device latency, intuitive gestures, ease of switching & managing apps including force-quitting apps, resource management (RAM, CPU), ease of cutting & pasting between apps, folders?, simple cursor positioning & text selection, quick access to phone & camera — how quick if device locked?, BB10 maps & navigation?, BB10 core apps maturity — better than BB7?, can I sync multiple Google calendars?, BB10’s flow logical/smooth?, LONG battery life!, the WOW factor, etc.
I hope none of core apps will be based on Adobe AIR :(BB fans are also expecting to see the top 100 apps on BB10 at launch. Don’t fail us!

  4. BB10 is going to Rock! Ive seen a devloper port BB10 from dev alpha on to Playbook. it has screen resolution issue though. But over all looked impressive.
Cant wait for this 25th when mighty Thor takes the stage to present the keynote. I hope he will declare some new partnerships with content providers and other major app developers. Fingers crossed.
