Don’t Install FinFisher Malware On Your BlackBerry

BlackBerry password install

There has been a bit of a media craze about FinFisher and its remote control malware toolkit recently. The media (Bloomberg) is reporting about a new malware strain found called FinFisher that is targeting Windows Phone, iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Symbian and can remotely control the devices. They fail to mention that users on BlackBerry have to actively install this malware on their device for it to work since it does not exploit any weakness in the BlackBerry software.

This has lead to RIM recommending once again that users not install malware on their BlackBerrys. This is pretty self explanatory but I guess it needs to be mentioned. They also recommend not giving malicious apps the permissions to perform sensitive functions on your BlackBerry. Check out their post on the BizBlog for more details.

  1. It does need to be mentioned. Sometimes we can’t figure out whether the apps is malicious or not.

  2. True but a lot of it boils down to can you trust the source and developer. It really is not much different than installing apps on your PC.
