Back in May of this year Flextronics told investors that they were reducing their relationship with RIM as RIM was improving their supply chain. In June RIM cut out Celestica from their manufacturing supply chain and now the BusinessTimes (via BBNews.pl) is reporting that Flextronics is also no longer manufacturing BlackBerry phones in Penang. RIM responded that they do not comment on supplier specific relations but they did say that:
"As we outlined in previous earnings calls, we are making changes to our supply chain as part of wider efforts to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of RIM’s operations."
As far as I understand that leaves Jabil Circuit Inc manufacturing BlackBerry smartphones and Quanta Computer Inc for the PlayBook. It also has me wondering who RIM is using to build BlackBerry 10 phones. It also raises the question if RIM is working with another manufacturer altogether for the devices.
