Official OS Now Available for the BlackBerry PlayBook!

PlayBook OS update 4G

Research In Motion has officially released OS for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Now apparently, we are hearing that version will be the ‘stock’ OS for the BlackBerry PlayBook 4G. Anyway, this update is also a maintenance update from what we are hearing.

There is no change log from RIM yet, so let us know in the comments if you notice anything different. Hopefully we will see another update to v2.1.x soon!

  1. Newer Flash Player, AIR und Android Player. I hope the Android Player – Freeze-Problem is resolved.

  2. I just downloaded and installed the new OS upgrade. When I tapped “yes” to restart, the whole playbook died. Nothing. I can’t turn it on, turn it off; just nothing.
I used to like my playbook a lot. I was going to get a Blackberry phone; not so sure now!

    • Same thing happened to me… I pressed and held the power button and it finally came on but I am having nothing but problems with it now. Don’t download the new OS. I am ready to toss mine. I was a happy Playbook user until tonight.

  3. Just installed, with no issues.
    Haven’t used it yet.

  4. Hmm, your PB should be able to reset. Try pushing down all 3 buttons on top, or plug it into bb desktop software. Hope you get it going again. For me, I’m hoping that a future upgrade will improve wi-fi. I cant see any differences so far with this latest one.

    • Now it works. I had to hold down the red button for a looooong time; then finally it shut down, and I could restart it.
Maybe I’ll get the BB phone after all!

  5. Just updated. see no difference untill cheqking my E=Mail. Got some mail from back in 2010 and 2011. How is that possibele?

  6. Just installed and no difference yet. I am waiting for some way to use a usb flash drive with my playbook.

  7. Well, they fixed the bug where all my playlists would have the music in a different order than I had in itunes, that’s always good.

  9. At least now, the Olympics are watchable on the PlayBook, but it still isn’t as good as other tablets and it sucks because the speakers on the PB are so much better!

  10. They still haven’t fixed the mail account so that active sync works. I get “your login information for account….has changed or is incorrect. Update your login information and try again.

I worked good until we changed our exchange server to an owa address

  11. mine still says you are running the latest version. can;t get the update to work. oh well may just as well wait for 2.1

  12. latest update as been pulled ! problems with it apparently.

  13. I am puzzled, I have a 64 g Playbook running When I check for updates in the settings, indicates I have the latest versions?

Seems like I am way behind… what is up with that?

  14. You do have the latest version if you exclude the latest update that was pulled.go to for the full explanation

  15. Can anyone tell me. How i can roll back to 2.0.1,668 from beta

  16. I am confused. I used to have my contacts come up in my email without a problem. Since the update, it says that account info changed. I have tried to delete and resync but it still doesnt sync my contacts. anythoughts?
