RIM Rumored To Be Selling One of Their Jets As Part of Cost Reductions

Dassault Falcon

You have to love how certain parts of the media jump on even the most obvious news. RIM announced at their last shareholders call that they are focused on reducing costs by $1 billion. Now Bloomberg is reporting that RIM is planning on selling one of their corporate jets as part of that effort. It seems like this is also a symbolic move on some part but this is what RIM had to say:

“We’re looking at options with both our aircraft costs and finding ways to reduce our travel while still making sure we keep in close contact with our partners around the world. It’s all part of the effort to find ways to reduce costs and drive efficiencies that [CEO] Thorsten Heins has talked about.” ~RIM

So far todays shareholders meeting has been relatively tame and boring with some downright idiotic questions but more on that later. It would be funny if this story is the biggest news coming out today.

  1. RIM is cutting a lot of expenses lately… not a good sign for a company that is supposed to be growing exponentially.

    • Not at all. When companies this size start being honest with themselves about things that might be considered wasteful you’ll see this type of thing. I don’t consider it odd at all. I think it’s smart that they realize there is room for improvement in the travel area. I wonder how many jets they have?

  2. I think it is a good sign as well. Shows they are leaning up their company and smartening up about the decisions that plagued them of the past. I am starting to like this new Heins CEO. Feel more confident then ever with Blackberry’s comeback in 2013. If I had some extra money I would pickup some shares right now @ 7.44. I can see this returning to 25-30 by mid next year.
