How to Enable BlackBerry Device Analyzer in OS 7.1.0.523+

alt BBDA BBDA

BlackBerry Device Analyzer, is an application/set of tools to monitor the health of your BlackBerry. Among other things, it is used to keep track of service coverage & drops and battery charge/discharge rates. BlackBerry OS 7.1.0.523 – which is the latest OS release for many of the BB7 phones – brought us ‘Application Resource Monitor’ but was seemingly missing BBDA. Upon further inspection, the application was listed as installed, but could not be found or launched.
Browsing through the CB forums, I came across a post by PiotrJot regarding BlackBerry Device Analyzer and a quick code on how to enable it even on the latest OS builds. To enable it simply:

  1. Open Options,
  2. Hold ALT & type BBDA
  3. BBDA is now available in: Options > Device > Advanced System Settings > BlackBerry Device Analyzer.

advanced ApplicationResourceMonitor

From the time it first appeared, Device Analyzer was buried in the advanced options screen, beside things like Cell Broadcasting & Browser Push. I can’t tell you why RIM would put time into hiding a useful feature, but hey they have done weirder things. (Source) I also learned from the same source, BBNews.pl, and CBForums that if you open Application Resource Monitor and type FLTR, it enables some advanced settings.
