BlackBerry Roadmap Leak Details BlackBerry 10 Device Rollout

BlackBerry 10 2013 Roadmap Leak

The delay of BlackBerry 10s launch into 2013 has disappointed RIM’s fans but RIM has still left us out in the dark when it comes to how the rollout will look in 2013. Joe over at BBOS scored from an anonymous source what appears to be the BlackBerry 10 rollout roadmap for 2013. It more or less jives with what we have heard so far and the details RIM has provided and does not contradict with any other sources. The roadmap details:

  • 4G BlackBerry PlayBook – Q4, 2012
  • BlackBerry 10 London/Nevada – Q1, 2013 – Europe launch before N. America
  • BlackBerry 10 Upgrade for PlayBook – Q1/Q2, 2013
  • BlackBerry device codenamed “Nashville” – Q2/Q3, 2013
  • BlackBerry 10 inch PlayBook “Blackforest” – Q3, 2013
  • BlackBerry device codenamed “Naples” – Q3/Q4, 2013

According to this source the launch of BlackBerry 10 is set for Europe in the first week of January with North America to follow in the first week of February. They say this is because European markets and media outlets have been more receptive to RIM and BlackBerry 10 than the North American market. That would not be a first for RIM especially with carriers always extending testing periods in the US which has lead to launches in Canada and internationally before the US.

As RIM mentioned before the PlayBook will be getting BlackBerry 10 in the same first quarter of 2013. Along with that is mention of what seems to be the 10” BlackBerry PlayBook codenamed Blackforest which was rumored to be cancelled previously. There are also hints that Blackforest will have a 128GB model.

Last but not least the two names for the codenamed Nashville and Naples devices also seem to be tracking between Q2 and Q4 of 2013 though we are not quite sure what they are. Joe speculates that because they start with “N” they will be keyboarded N-Series devices. All in all pretty exciting but expected news. The thing that really relieves me is that this rumor is pointing to the beginning of 2013 instead of the last day in Q3 2013. Let us know what you think!

  1. Very interesting. I believe The BlackBerry names belong to following:

    1. Nashville: Slider

    2. Naples: Curve

If this is the case, that would be just about right. Good to see the time line, Hopefully RIMM sticks to it. 128 GB for the 10″ PlayBook – Wow!

  2. To bad none of those are likely to happen.

  3. If they can just get the touch and Bold models out I would be happy. It all seems so far away now.. Still can’t believe we are waiting another 6 months!

  4. Any word on the mobile fusion front?

  5. I think I might get myself one of those new 4G playbooks, will make a awesome Xmas present to myself!

    • I think tablets will once again be a popular item at the holidays and if RIM can put out a 4G version, I think they’ll be able to steal some sales. For one thing, consumers forget things faster than the tech world does and two, if everyone is buying a tablet, if they price it right, it will sell.

    • Given the competition RIM will face this fall I don’t see a 4G Playbook as having any shot at success. UNLESS…. it has BB10 on it and they push out BB10 to existing Playbooks.

  6. It’s a leaked roadmap so…it is what it is, but as I’ve been saying they need to have 2 or more devices released at launch, so this is good to see. For one, they need to rebuild momentum after the delay but second, think of the marketing you can do with 2 instead of just 1 device and three, BB has always had a good lineup in the carrier stores, they need to get back to that.
