RIM Discontinuing 16GB PlayBook Model in Favor of 32GB & 64GB Models

PlayBook Email

According to a letter received by ubermanx from RIM (via CrackBerry) it looks like RIM is clearing out stock of their 16GB entry level PlayBook. The letter above states that RIM is letting the supply of 16GB PlayBooks sell through after which stores will no longer get stock. Instead RIM is recommending vendors sell the 32GB and 64GB models which are not going anywhere. We know that RIM is working on a new revision of the PlayBook with a 1.5Ghz processor along with 4G so this could be part of their strategy. It also makes sense since RIM has been heavily discounting the 16GB model with the 32GB and 64GB models not far behind.

What I am really interested is when these devices will be getting a BlackBerry 10 update or at least the OS 2.1 update officially. Cant wait!

  1. Will my 64GB playbook be updated to BB10.

    • Current PB’s have been reported that they will get the BB10 branding. However it is somewhat in place already just called 2.0, 2.1.

      • PlayBook OS 2.1 is closer to BB10 but not quite. BB10 will add a lot of functionality to OS 2.1. There is much more than phone functions.

  2. Yes indeed, the PlayBook will run BB10 but after the BB10 phones are released.

  3. Thank you for all your replies on my query on BB10.

On my playbook I need to run swf flash file.
    Can this be possible?
