PlayBook OS 2.0 Aces Sencha HTML5 Development Scorecard

This little tidbit was lost during all the craziness of BlackBerry World and BlackBerry 10 Jam but I think it is still worth mentioning. Jerry let us know that Sencha put the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 through their various tests for HTML5 and found that it had improved upon an already solid HTML5 platform. In their previous scorecard they said that the PlayBook OS 1.0 was superior to Android 3.0’s browser overall and an excellent HTML5 platform. Their follow up scorecard for PlayBook OS 2.0 goes even further to call it a Very Fine HTML5 browser stating that:

With the release of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2, the RIM browser team once again delivers a high performance and up-to-date HTML5 platform for web app developers. For businesses that want to bet on a stable, state of the art device for HTML5 applications, the BlackBerry PlayBook with OS 2 is an excellent choice.

Devs can check out the full scorecard here. I am just waiting to see what they say once they get a hold of the browser that RIM started showing and revealed in the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha devices…

  1. Saw a youtube video comparing the Dolphin Browser with the PlayBook Browser and it looked like the Dolphin Browser had more gesture control and options. I hope RIM incorporates their flow and finger gestures into the BB10 Browser.

  2. That’s very very nice RIM (tepid golf clapping).

    Point your ‘awesome’ browser here:

    ….and make it work.

Currently that site is a grenade to the Playbook’s ‘awesome’ browser.

    • Joe, don’t know why you’re having problems loading that site on the PB. I just typed in the address you provided and my PB loaded in under 3 seconds. Grant it my desktop with mega ram loaded in less then 1 second, but still my PB is getting around that site with minimal lag all on wi-fi.

    • I have no problem with that website either, works just fine.

  3. Nope. That site still don’t work. And if loaded in two tabs freezes the PB. I’m on the latest OS version.

I sure hope I don’t need to Wipe and reload, because that’s what I’ve had to do last two OS updates.

    Bum hardware?

Starting to wipe………expected time till everything is back up and all apps and data reloaded…..4-5 hours.

I’ve been a BB fan since 2004 and will be ongoing, but there are a few things the PB needs to be tweaked.

    BB10 better be awesome.

    • Ooo… I feel your pain regarding the security wipe. Had to do it the once before, but haven’t had any problems.

I did find I actually had to clear all my cookies and cache memory and did a couple of full shut downs and restarts and haven’t found any issues with it since OS 2.0 came out.

      Good luck! 🙂

    • Does it work now after wiping and reloading?
