This was more or less a given with RIM’s BlackBerry OS pedigree but its nice to see it come through. At the DISA Mission Partner Conference RIM announced that they have received US Department of Defense (DoD) wide approval for the use of BlackBerry 7 smartphones. That means they are now approved to be used on DoD networks. The approved products include
- BlackBerry(R) Bold(TM) 9900 and 9930 (touch screen with keyboard)
- BlackBerry(R) Torch(TM) 9810 (touch screen with slide out keyboard)
- BlackBerry(R) Torch(TM) 9850 and 9860 (full screen touch screen)
- BlackBerry(R) Curve(TM) 9360 (keyboard)

RIM Announces Approval of BlackBerry 7 Smartphones for U.S. Department of Defense Networks
TAMPA, FLORIDA–(Marketwire – May 9, 2012) – DISA Mission Partner Conference — Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) today announced DoD-wide approval for the use of BlackBerry(R) 7 smartphones. Working with U.S. Army and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) sponsors and partners, BlackBerry 7 smartphones have undergone successful testing through Army labs leading to a subsequent listing on DISA’s Unified Communications Approved Product List (UCAPL).
The approval allows all DoD customers to use the following BlackBerry 7 smartphones on DoD networks:
