Roadmap for Mobile Fusion on iOS & Android and Moving to the Cloud

This is the first time I have seen RIM’s CIO, Robin Bienfait, ever talk at a BlackBerry event. She got on stage during the main keynote today and laid out the roadmap for some future development for Mobile Fusion along with Alan Panezic. Right now it offers what most other MDM solutions do for iOS and Android but users such as Martha Stuart Living which have already implemented it want more. RIM laid out the plan that:

  • Mobile Fusion will be offered in both a standalone, partner hosted, and cloud based solution for any company to use.
  • RIM has been asked to extend their industry leading secure connection back to the enterprise for third party devices (Read iOS and Android) to pipe data securely to and from mobile devices.
  • RIM also committed to working on securing the data on third party devices in an encrypted container.

They did not go into much further detail but check out the slides for some facts. Robin also mentioned what she called Direct Enterprise Connection which seems to be allowing cloud and hosted BES to access back into the enterprise through apps using MDS and such.
