Free MagicBerry v3.5 Adds Support for Reading .BBB BlackBerry Backup Files

MagicBerry

MagicBerry has long been the best tool for parsing and reading BlackBerry backup files. The problem is when RIM started moving from .IPD files to .BBB files they could no longer be opened with MagicBerry. Now it seems like MagicBerry’s developer, Ashraf M. Awwad, has reverse engineered the .BBB format and we are back in business. You can now extract things like contacts, calendar, media files, phone logs, service books, and more from .BBB backup files.

Check out the latest MagicBerry free from Awwad’s website. Make sure to donate if you find the app useful! Thanks Mil for the tip via LaBlackBerry.

  1. This review is a good one but what I’d really like to see is a review about the BlackBerry Backup Extractor and its BBB and IPD reading. Looking forward to seeing that!

  2. MagicBerry is FREE tool and intended to help BB community with excellent support from the developers and continuous enhancement that why it is favorable to all. Why should I pay while I can have FREE service, I think the same idea has been pointed here:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Bold/Restoring-Contacts-via-Blackberry-Desktop-Software-Help/m-p/1622043#M108519

  3. I have the latest version installed but keep getting “error on parsing the bbb file” and “error on parsing the file, couldn’t read the db titles error” when I try to read a .bbb file. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

  4. I get the “error on parsing…” too. It won’t load the IPD, so cannot access the SMS files, which I really need.

BB Bold and Magicberry 3.5 running on XP SP3.

    Any clues?

  5. If you want to read SMS from IPD file then use the old version from here http://www.menastep.com/MagicBerry3.zip

    Regards

  6. Component ‘COMDLG32.ocx’ or one of its dependencies not correctly regsitered: a file is missing or invalid.

  7. I really appreciate the app – my critical desire is to access my saved TEXT messages. Only SMS text exporting is currrently supported – but NOT text. (Text is there – but not export-able, see below) Regardless, this is a great step forward for me.

The SMS export works fine for CSV and text, but in the “SMS Message” display folder, the items font is set to an inappropriate font – unreadable to me (arabic looking)

In the “SMS Message” individual item display the telephone number and messages are jsut fine. The font is just like the “Phone Call Logs” which display in the same (good) font on both sides.

    For text messages:
Bad directory list font, can’t export text messages.

In general, the user can’t resize the directory and detail windows so the directory is truncated even when there is plenty of space on the screen to display it.

I would gladly pay $10 for the application if some of those features were present, issues resolved. A good data reader/extractor is a great thing. I am pleased that I found this product.

  8. Error parsing the file couldnt read the db titles error, when opening my bbb file
