Jim Balsillie Scorned by York University in Toronto

If  any of you been wondering what RIM’s former co-leader has been up to of late… the answer… is getting into more controversy!!!  In this latest event, Jim B. offered $30 million dollars as a donation to York University, which was to be matched by the Ontario government; however, York University turned him down!!  York University state the reasoning behind the rejection was because “it threatened York’s autonomy and academic freedom” according to an article at the Globe and Mail.

In response Jim wrote this piece yesterday in the Globe and Mail.  Seems Jim is none too happy.  Perhaps his unhappiness is furthered by the fact that 7 Ontario Universities just accepted a $175 million dollar donation from IBM.  OUCH!

  1. Wow, good for Balsillie…that doesn’t quite seem like a $30 million dollar reason but…their loss.

  2. What a bunch of dumb a$$es at Osgood Hall faculty. Here is money provided for research with clear expectations on what to use it for… it’s unfortunate that these faculty members are most likely tenured members which would make them impossible to get rid off. But with such short sightedness to their vision they have help dragged future Canadian policy makers down a notch…

  3. I am glad Jimbo is out still willing to dish out his money

  4. What’s with the Ballmer-esque pictures of Jim lately, lol….

  5. Unfortunately, Jim was part of the big promisies, no delivery problems that helped drag RIMM down. But like Mike he is very generous. I wish him well.
