BlackBerry 10 Jam Developer Conference Announced for May 1st-3rd

RIM has just made a very curious announcement for developers. They let us know about a new BlackBerry 10 Jam conference that will be run concurrent to BlackBerry World on May 1-3 in Orlando. This BlackBerry 10 Jam conference will be focused on BlackBerry 10 development unlike RIM’s regular DevCon conference which covers all BlackBerry development. The BlackBerry 10 Jam conference will actually be held at the Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Fl which is close but does not seem to be walk-able to the Orlando World Center Marriott where BlackBerry World is going on concurrently. (Google Maps)

RIM is running BlackBerry 10 Jam to highlight the benefits and opportunities for BlackBerry 10 development. RIM also confirms once again that BlackBerry 10 will launch “later this year.” The cost for the full conference pass is only $299. This also gives you access to the BlackBerry World Party, Keynote, and Welcome Reception in the Solutions Showcase.

Developers will be able to take part in instructor led labs, information sessions and more. Sessions and labs will be dedicated to:

  • BlackBerry® Native SDK – a C/C++ environment with support for open source libraries
  • HTML5+BlackBerry® WebWorks™ – HTML5 tools with an added layer for app enhancement through BlackBerry WebWorks
  • Adobe® Flash® – The AIR® SDK for BlackBerry allows developers to build apps with Flash+AIR tools
  • Android – the Android runtime will run applications that have been packaged from APK files to BAR files and submitted to BlackBerry App World™

More details and info can be found at or in their blog announcement.  RIM explains that you should attend to:

  • Be the first to develop for the BlackBerry 10 platform.
  • Get a snapshot of the new things you can do with the BlackBerry 10 development platform. Learn about the unique capabilities of BlackBerry 10 to set your application apart.
  • Collaborate with your community. Learn, share and network with your peers. Make valuable connections that will make you even more successful with BlackBerry.
  • One-on-one expert guidance. Jam with BlackBerry platform experts and build a better app.

I will definitely be stopping by while I am at BlackBerry World. Let us know if you are coming!

  1. Is it just me, or does this event sound like a “kids program” for the adults (i.e. “business folks”) to send their pesky children (i.e. “developers”) off to during BBWC?

(BBWC typically doesn’t have very much developer content, and is a lot more expensive than DevCon.)
