More Than Words: Fightin’ Words (Freemium) Gets Chat and a Facelift

Fightin’ Words, everybody’s favorite Words With Friends clone on the BlackBerry platform, has been given a welcome update. Version 1.30.4 brings with it updated graphics, improved rendering on 7.0/7.1 devices, and adds a new in-game Chat feature. Simply press the SYM key on your keyboard, or hit the Menu key and choose Chat. Both players must have Chat enabled for this feature to work.

My experience with FW thus far has been sketchy, but still a lot of fun. I kept it despite the frequent connection issues, slow performance, and improper rendering on my 9900. In the previous version,my tiles were mis-aligned along the bottom, and the point values were almost impossible to read. In addition, the game seemed to perform very slowly when not on wifi, taking a long time to check words, and losing connection frequently. The new update has happily resolved all of these issues. Response time via mobile data is quick, the updated graphics look much more polished and bright, and the board now has 3 levels of zoom and bigger tiles, making it nice and easy to read. I daresay I may just have to pay for the ad-free premium version of Fightin’ Words. Much thanks to InterWorks, Inc for bringing this wordplay amongst companions to the BlackBerry platform and keeping up with it!

Personal Rating: 4.5 Berries out of 5 (When do we get full touchscreen support for the Bold, folks? 😉 )
