RIM “Committed to Helping Our Developers Transition to BlackBerry 10”

 BlackBerry Transition22

I am not sure what to make of this commitment by Tim Neil, RIMs Director of Application Platform & Tools Product Management. In the same slide deck from Mobile World Congress Developer Day he points out that RIM is “committed to helping our developers with the transition to BlackBerry 10.” That is a pretty strong statement from RIM since they have not really provided a direct path from BlackBerry 5/6/7 to PlayBook OS 2.0 yet beyond offering HTML5.

I am very curious to see what Tools, docs, best practices, and support RIM will be offering developers to make the transition. Let us know if you learn more or find more details!

  1. Maybe RIM is just talking about Webworks and html5 apps and NOT necessarily JAVA BB apps.

  2. The transition to BlackBerry 10 must be very smooth otherwise lots of apps just won’t get ported and it won’t look good for RIM.
