PlayBook Makes Up 22% of Paid App Downloads in App World

RIM shared this little tidbit during a presentation at Mobile World Congress and it really has me wondering. According to them BlackBerry PlayBook apps made up 22% of paid downloads in App World from November 1st until February 1st. That is mind blowing when you consider that there are 75 million+ BlackBerry smartphone users and an unknown number of PlayBook owners… If developers needed another reason for putting effort into making an awesome PlayBook app then look no further…

  1. that is full of it. How can less than 1 million PB have 22% share over 70+ million BBs? are BB users not buying any apps?

  2. we need to know how many playbook owners there are!

  3. Guys, I think I have a problem, I have not meet any not blogger guy with more apps than me. I think I have bought about 276 apps and I own about 324 apps in my playbook… please tell me there is one like

  4. Many BB users of the 75 million are also on BES — ie. restricted App World access.

  5. RIM didn’t give their smartphones enough RAM to install lots of apps. I keep mine simple.

  6. Devs pay attention, this is huge news for BB10 development

  7. Hi everyone… Tim Neil here.. The guy who presented the material 🙂

The stats are accurate. Also, PlayBook is the #1 revenue generator for developers. I’m working on getting the updated stats on our App World page. We’ll be updating this page soon with the latest PlayBook, BB5/BB6/BB7 breakdown:

  8. The latest paid vs free breakdown by OS version is now available on the App World page
