RIM Shows Off BlackBerry OS 7.1 DLNA & TAT PlayBook Meeting File Sharing @ MWC

 BlackBerry DLNA BlackBerry DLNA2

RIM is out at Mobile World Congress this week showing off their wares and Piotr has been keeping an eye out on the latest updates. Some of the interesting things being shown off at the show are the new DLNA file sharing and streaming in the latest BlackBerry OS 7.1 leaks. In that display RIM is showing off how you can use wireless sharing (They don’t call it DLNA) to share music, movies, and more to your other devices over Wi-Fi.

Also interesting to see is a new The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) concept that is probably still a far way off but shows you that RIM is really pushing the envelope. It shows off five PlayBooks where you share information between the devices by simply flicking in their direction. Its a cool idea but currently requires things like cameras to see where the PlayBooks are. Still its cool to see what RIM is imagining for the future.

  1. Apple and Android don’t have a chance against QNX and TAT!

  2. that’s some amazing stuff!! can’t wait for Blackberry 10!!

  3. I’m pretty interested in why there’s a ps3 controller next to a playbook…

  4. I’m also interested in why there is a PS3 controller although I suppose it’s simply for navigating the PS3 menus in order to select a Blackberry Phone and scroll through the list of music/videos that are is on it.

I wish there was a clear indication – a date – that DLNA will be coming out for the Playbook though.

  5. Absolutely! Apple has reached their media consumption peak. Meanwhile, Blackberry is just getting started with DLNA (wifi sharing), Cross platform apps/games – soon to be 3D gaming, the ability to use your Blackberry as a remote for the Playbook and other tablets as well, and the best PIMM apps for any mobile device.

  6. That file sharing feature (which is old tech) is awesome. Great for companies equipped with PlayBooks.

  7. I really hope they add DLNA and USB hosting on the PlayBook.

  8. These videos are mesmerizing! I’m loving the Minority Report tech! :)
