We heard before that RIM was working together with the NHL Players Association (NHLPA) for a special promotion called the Players PlayBook. They just announced the details together with the NHLPA where they have partnered together to give fans a behind the scenes look into the lives of five NHL stars. That includes Scott Hartnell (Philadelphia Flyers), Bobby Ryan (Anaheim Ducks), Joffrey Lupul (Toronto Maple Leafs), Martin Biron (New York Rangers) and Michael Grabner (New York Islanders) who will use the BlackBerry PlayBook to capture their activities off the ice. That means we will be getting lots of insight into how these players live off the ice.
The Players PlayBook promotion goes beyond just watching videos with:
- Fan’s Choice Video: Every week an online poll will allow fans to choose what video they would be most interested in watching based on where the players are and what’s happening at the time.
- Question & Answer: Fans can ask players questions via the home website or by posting a comment on YouTube. Every week, the players will respond to fan submitted questions and challenges.
The new NHL Players Playbook site launches today at playbook.nhlpa.com. It also features other interesting photos, tweets and BBM’s from the players for a season-long celebration of life off the ice. Let us know what you think of RIM’s latest Power Play!

They should get some baseball, football and basketball players in also. Hockey fans are just a single demographic.

I agree.. but you also have to remember that RIM is a Canadian company and hockey is life in Canada. Personally, I could care less about the other sports…but I can see how others would prefer to follow a football or baseball star.

Love the idea .. but ironically the site shows up screwy on the playbook, and I can’t click on the top row of videos.

Agree. Kinda lame the videos can’t be started on the PlayBook. Otherwise the site looks gorgeous.
