How to Add Yahoo Email, Contacts, & Calendar to Your PlayBook OS 2.0

IMG_00000019

If you happen to still be a Yahoo user and upgraded to PlayBook OS 2.0 you may have noticed that RIM does not have a menu option to add Yahoo accounts. It will easily add your Yahoo email account but contacts and calendar do not get setup easily. Turns out RIM has kindly put out a bit of detail on how to get that setup by yourself by using the CalDAV and CardDAV server configuration. I am still digging into it but these are the instructions for getting Yahoo contacts and calendar to sync:

To add a Yahoo Calendar account:
  1. On the Home Screen, click on the Options cog at the top right of the System Tray
  2. Click on Accounts
  3. Click on Add New Account
  4. Click on Email, Calendar and Contacts
  5. Click on Advanced Setup
  6. Scroll down and click on CalDAV
  7. On the Account Integration screen, the Description field is optional, but can be filled in for clarity.
  8. Enter the full Rogers email address in the Username and Email Address fields.
  9. Enter the password in the Password field. Use the Show Password checkbox to ensure it is correct.
  10. In the Server Address field, enter caldav.calendar.yahoo.com
  11. Sync Interval can be changed with these values : 15 Minutes, 30 Minutes, 1 Hour, 2 Hours, 4 Hours, 24 Hours, or Manual. The default is 15 Minutes.
  12. Click Save to finish.

  7. Click Continue
  8. On the Account Integration screen, the Description field is optional, but can be filled in for clarity if multiple accounts are created on the BlackBerry PlayBook.

  1. Is there any way to get your Yahoo email folders to show up on the Playbook? I get my Inbox, but no other folders.

  2. Wow thanks. I was trying to figure this out for the longest time today but this worked like a charm :)

  3. Can someone tell me how to setup my yahoo email

  4. have tried the fixes and can not get yahoo mail on my play book
    g-mail works fine
    what BS this is

  5. I can tell us what my settings are…

  6. I got the email in by using IMAP not carddav.

Failed to get yahoo address instralled. What is “Enter the full Rogers email address in the Username and Email Address fields”?. It does not make sense for yahoo email. And I do not use user name except the name before the @yahoo when loging in.

    Anybody help, please?

  7. IMAP on Yahoo is really tricky. They try to get you to pay for it. I have not been keeping up with it for ages since I switched to exchange and gmail. Last I checked they had a quirky policy where IMAP was allowed from smartphones but not desktops.

What you really need to do is simply find the IMAP settings for your Yahoo service.

  8. Thank you so much for posting these instructions! Great Help, I was able to sync everything (contacts/mail/calendar) with my PB !
Long Live BerryReview, RIM/Blackberry, my Torch9800 and Playbook 64GB!!
    Cheers,

    Raul

    • I don’t have a Rogers email account, so the instructions above don’t help me to setup my yahoo email account. Pease advise how I can get some help.

  9. Also wondering where all my subfolders are for yahoo.

  10. THANK YOU. Been trying all kinds of support, this was the place to use !!!!!!

  11. i followed the instructions and it responded “failed testing with current settings”. i checked for typos. what does this mean?

  12. Rogers refused to support the sync function with the Playbook. Pb support line is 877-644-8405. They say that Rogers does not support a calendar sync, only contacts and email. And even then, my BB smartphone must be synced as well. i dont keep my bb contacts synced to the desktop, and you need that to also sync the PB.

  13. ive been trying to sync to play book for days email works fine but calendar and contacts wont sync. i have tried the above steps but nothing wait did get a calendar icon in the accounts tab but nothing will sync to my calendar?
and when i try to add a new account using the carddav option this is what happens

    failed testing with current settings???????

    what am i doing wrong?

HELP im going to throw the thing out the window.

  14. I still can’t get my contacts to sync with yahoo, I have tried many times using the advanced settings and carddav.address.yahoo.com anyone else still having this problem? My calendar and email have worked but not contacts, the message I keep getting the message failed testing with current settings. Anyone have any ideas? Or experiencing the same problem?

    • I’m getting the same thing. Can’t seem to resolve getting my yahoo contacts to show on the PB. Both Calendar and email sync fine.

  15. These are great instructions. I am only disappointed that it did not work for the yahoo contacts and calendar. Did anyone get this to work?

  16. I have tried setting it up with my Yahoo account which I have not used in years and it seems to work but I cannot be sure. I know Yahoo is really crazy based on what year you signed up for their services and how. I think mine was once tied to an SBCGlobal account which was turned into premium and then back so nobody knows what the story is.

    • Still waiting and hoping someone that someone has a fix for getting my yahoo contacts synced to my Playbook, I am with Rogers/Yahoo and I have tried the advanced procedure by using the carddav.address.yahoo.com without any success, my calendar and email have been able to be set up but not contacts, the funny part is my wife has a playbook and is with rogers/yahoo and her contacts synced just fine, I have contacted BB support they say they are aware but have no fix at this time, just wondering if someone out there has been able to find a fix for this?
      Thanks

      • I am having the exact same problem. Email and calendar are fine but contacts will not show up. Everything worked ok on my wife’s pb but not mine. I have checked all settings between our pb’s and find no difference. Stumped!!!

        • I can only say keep trying, after many attempts over a few days it just worked one day,not sure why or how, but it did. I heard that the latest update was to address some of these issue but maybe not, I have no answer except keep trying.
          All the best
          Larry

    • Thanks Ronen, I appreciate you effort.

  17. Can anyone help me find the solution to my issues below.

    1. I have my yahoo mail setup in my playbook. When I read and delete emails using my playbook, I would still see them unread/un-deleted in my inbox when I open my yahoo mail from my PC or other devices. It seems like whatever updates I did in my email using playbook do not reflect if I open my email from other device. Can someone help me figure this one out?

    2. How do I see my folders/sub-folders other than Inbox, Sent, or Trash?

I would appreciate any kind of help.

    Thanks.

  18. i couldnt to a wifi with 7character password…
bb playbook is asking for 8 an above character
