Before going to bed last night Alec Saunders, RIM’s head of Developer Relations, posted a tweet that impressed me. He was simply awestruck that they have registered 6600 new BlackBerry developers in 11 days. My guess is this is all from the hugely successful PlayBook promotion. Devs have been telling me that it is taking longer than usual to register as a dev in App World but RIM has been working overtime to get the registrations in and hopes things will return to normal after February 15th. They have also extended the deadline for the free PlayBooks to March.
As Alec explained in a later tweet these PlayBooks are actually coming from an inventory of 25,000 that were earmarked for developers back in the Fall of last year. I just hope we get some great apps out of this promotion!

And there will be as much crap and junk apps on Appworld too. 95% of new devs just want the free playbook.

5% of 6600 is 330. How many apps do you use?
