Rumor: Sprint Discontinuing Current 7” Wi-Fi BlackBerry PlayBook

PlayBook EOL Sprint

We have heard rumors before of carriers discontinuing the BlackBerry but they never really pushed it that hard. Sprint was one of the first to carry it especially when they planned on following up with a WiMax variant but when Sprint axed its WiMax future that PlayBook variant was shelved. Now we are hearing a rumor from TechCrunch that Sprint plans on an expected end of life for the current BlackBerry PlayBook Wi-Fi only 7” tablet in late January. That means they will probably no longer sell it in stores though that it subject to change.

The question is are they just not selling it through carriers or is there something else coming? I know RIM pissed off the carriers with BlackBerry Bridge since it did not provide them a revenue stream but we know a cellular enabled PlayBook is in the works. Only time will tell!

probably the same thing will happen with some BB7 devices, second grade specs are almost like old hardware.
