Walmart in the US has a nice discount on the BlackBerry PlayBook Rapid Travel Charger. As a reminder this charger pumps out 2A over a different cable than the usual MicroUSB and pushes out 2A for what RIM calls a Rapid Charge. It attaches magnetically to the PlayBook and keeps your MicroUSB port free. It originally sold for about $70 but Thomas let me know (via Techbargains) that Walmart is selling it for $19 in the US. Shipping to your local Walmart store is free and shipping to your house will cost you about $3 from what I can tell.

I went to a Walmart store the other day hoping they had them in stock and would match the price. Apparently they only had the Blackberry Rapid Charger – not the Blackberry Rapid Travel Charger and the price was a LOT higher. So what’s the difference between them? This looks like a great deal, but I want to make sure it is going to work properly before I jump on it.

This uses the magnetic port, the latter uses the microusb I suppose?

I did as well.. saw it in the store.. thought it was 20$ it scanned as 70$ showed them the Serial Number online matched that on the box in the store.. they would not honor it.. like what was mentioned the box said Rapid Charger not Rapid Travel Charger.. fact is they are the same thing.. but the packaging was changed to make it more appealing to businessman on the road. So I guess it has to be an online order…

@Will… So the one you tried to buy was indeed the Rapid charger with magnetic contact connector? Not the USB connector?

The Rapid Charger also named the Rapid Travel Charger.. which is the same product. Are both the 3 prong magnetic contact connector and are not USB.

FYI, the stand is also on sale for $29, but I’m cheap and I think the travel charger is a better option.
