Mike Lazaridis & Jim Balsillie Leave CEO Post – Name Thorsten Heins as CEO

Mike Jim

Now this is a big shakeup at RIM. The WSJ is reporting that both co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis have stepped down from their positions at RIM. That is something that a few years back would have been inconceivable. They have named Thorsten Heins, previously RIM’s COO, as the new CEO. Mike & Jim will remain directors and still have all their stock at RIM. Heins told the WSJ that he is not planning to sell RIM though may consider licensing when BlackBerry 10 launches.

PS this has already been confirmed on RIM’s website

We will let you know as more breaks!

  1. Definitely big news. Will be interesting how the next week, month, quarter(s) play out…on the financial analyst front, the tech media blog front…oh and the BGR front of course. Let me guess, their RIM insider knew about the change before even Lazaridis and Baseille knew? lol
