Meet Thorsten Heins RIM’s New President and CEO on Video

Thorsten Heins

Terry let me know that RIM has thrown up a video introducing their new CEO and President Thorsten Heins. As we mentioned before Thorsten used to be RIM’s COO and he seems pretty excited to take the job. He has never really been in the spotlight before so I am sure we will be learning more about him in the next few weeks. Check out the video below and meet Thorsten Heins for yourself!

PS: There seem to be other videos also available on RIM’s YouTube channel but they seem to be cuts on this larger video

  1. Yeah there are like 7 videos with commentary from the new CEO on BlackBerry’s YouTube channel…

  2. Good point though it does seem like just more cut up segments of the whole

    • Ah ha, that makes sense. I just knew that my inbox was going nuts from YouTube telling me that BlackBerry had uploaded a bunch of videos…

  3. Good move for RIM. Even if Mike and Jim accepted the mistakes they made it is hard for them to admit them as part of moving on. With this move mistakes have been acknowledged, burn the bridge with the past and look forward.

Don’t stop thinking about Tomorrow should be the new theme for RIM … yesterday’s gone, yesterday’s gone.

  4. He’s saying all the right things. I am more optimistic after watching this video. As the former COO he should be able to make things happen. I’m still cautious though due to many years of high hopes being dashed. Git er done Heins!!!

  5. Glad to see it is an internal promotion. Definitely optimistic and interested to see how it plays out.

  6. I guess they made more changes than just cutting Mike and Jim’s salary by $1.
    Was that Canadian or US???

  7. Although I am a very nervous that a shift at the top may hurt RIM and their focus, after watching this video, I feel Mr. Heins may be what RIM needs. I still believe Mike L. should have retained the CEO role and relinquished the role of President — not both. However, Mike will still be involved in the company — that is sooo crucial for RIM’s success!

I like what Mr. Heins said about innovation being key to RIM’s success. It is and must be #1. I am so happy to hear him stress that. Nothing is more important for a wireless technology company in this wildly competitive space.

  8. A change at the top was necessary to help restore RIMM’s badly tatered image. First order of business: i pumping out commercials touting the new 2.0 tablet and Blackberry 7 phones. Second order of business: Work on releasing BB10 phones earlier than August or September. Hopefully, the new president can inject the discipline, fire and direction RIMM badly needs.
