We mentioned that Nobex updated their popular and free BlackBerry streaming radio app last week but did not have a change log. Nobex finally got back to us with the details of the update and it turns out they added some nice additions under the hood but also snuck in one slick new feature called “Social Listening” in version 3.3.14. They essentially make use of the new BBM SDK to make Nobex more social.
Here is how Nobex describes it:
When a user listens to a station, they can click the social button at the bottom right, and either invite their friends to download (boring…) or, invite them to listen to the same station with them. The friends then receive a notification in BBM that they were invited, and when they click it, Nobex Radio launches (or is downloaded if it’s not there), and starts playing the exact same station. So imagine you hear your wedding song on the radio – from within Nobex Radio, with a couple of clicks, you can get your wife to tune in to the same station, hearing the exact same song, no matter where she is. When the friends join, the Nobex Radio screen changes to include a chat window within the application, allowing everyone who joined the session to chat. And, to make it even more fun, and start some friendly battles, anyone on the session can pick another station, and switch everyone else to that station.
So, you can be in completely different places, and still have a joint listening experience with your friends.
Pretty cool right? The also included some internal improvements for them to support more stream types in the future along with faster communications, improved UI, and more. All in all a worthy update. You can pick up the latest version of Nobex Radio free in App World.
