That rumor was quashed fast. Usually companies do not comment on rumors or speculation but Samsung has come right out to quash this latest rumor of a possible acquisition of RIM. Samsung simply says they have no interest in buying RIM. Better yet RIM has never approached Samsung about an acquisition. Here is what they told Reuters:
"We haven’t considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM)," Chung also said Samsung had not been approached by the Canadian firm for a takeover.
As it goes you have to take rumors with huge grains of salt especially from certain sources. Who knows what the truth is but I think we can let this one go for now. Samsung did not specifically say they were not interested or approached about a licensing option but that is yet another rumor…
So what’s next? Anybody taking bets on the next rumor being Google buying RIM? Or better yet how about Apple or HTC or even Verizon? My gut tells me it is all a bunch of stock manipulation but I have no proof either way.

Sell all your stock at the opening bell if you bought it low from a month ago.
Its only going to go down as the day goes on

Why on this planet people listen to BGR’s hallucinations and actually repeat them I’ll never know.

WHY does anyone still give BGR any credibility and WHY do sites report BGR ‘rumours’ as true. I’m betting the site owner wanted to inflate price so he could dump some RIMM stocks.
PLEASE stop spreading BGR rumours in the future. Thanks.

Crackberry even passed it right on along…I’ve actually never gone to their site except through links on others. That’s the problem. I know Crackberry would say they just cover everything Blackberry and are only commenting on it but really…just ignore them altogether.

We mainly mentioned it because it had caused RIM’s stock to rise 10% in one day so it definitely was newsworthy but throughout the same time stressed that it was probably stock manipulation.

I say we ban day trading!
The only folks that benefit from wild-@$$ unqualified rumors are day traders. They’re the lowest of the low — parasites feeding off the sludge. They’re not investors at all because they don’t care about the companies they invest in, they just want to cash in on rumors.
Unfortunately, too many investment houses are doing it. It’s hard to prove so they continue to manipulate stock through rumors of deals.

So true. I’m in my 20s, my investment strategy is long term…any given day, my stocks will be up or down and right now but I’m still committed to everyone of the stocks I hold. I still have RIM share in my portfolio that have a cost basis of over $100.

I invest for the long haul too. I will not get worked up over stock price fluctuations based on rumors, etc. It has taken nearly two years for me to get my wife to think the same way. It used to be a wild ride every single day for her. It drove me nuts.
