A Bit of Explanation of PlayBook Native Email & the BlackBerry NOC

PlayBook Native Email

While down at CES Kevin @CrackBerry got Michael Clewley, from RIM’s PlayBook team, to detail a bit more of how exactly native email on the PlayBook works. As we know it mostly uses the ActiveSync technology which does not go through RIM’s NOC usually. It is interesting to see how RIM sees the future of RIM’s differentiating NOC (Network Operations Center) with QNX, BB10, and the PlayBook. Check out the video explanation below:

@CrackBerry also scored some nice video of the PlayBook Video Chat in v2.0. Nothing crazy different like a PC client but definitely improved with things like presence control:

  1. Lol… after hearing this I was more confused about the email system

They need a flow chart or something lol

  2. Can anyone explain to me in laymen’s terms why they cannot get QNX to work with their NOC?

If QNX cannot play nicely with RIM’s infrastructure, and the security and compression advantages, along with BBM are compromised, what’s the point?

  3. Newbee and still confused: Do I need bridge in order to send email from my playbook? I do not have a blackberry phone. Purchased PB mostly as an ereader and have not figured out how to connect to Kobo. Any help would be appreciated.
