RIM has rolled out BlackBerry Messenger (aka BBM) v6.1.0.49 today as promised. The new update brings a few nice additions along with NFC support in OS 7.1 and other perks. The main new features according to the download page are the addition of:
- Support for Animated Avatars – display pictures can now be animated!
- Enjoy a new selection of Emoticons
- Double the space to update your Personal Messages
- Customize the colour of chat bubbles for your contacts
- Simpler display picture update from the camera app – snap a picture and display it on BBM right away
Definitely worth a download though you can check the change log below:

how do you edit the bubbles for bbm?mine just says reset any selections?if so how

To change the bubble color for a certain contact, go to their ‘Contact Profile.’ Right above their personal message there will be a dropdown menu called ‘Bubble Color.’
To get to a contact profile click the person on your BBM list. If you have a chat open, go to the top of the chat (hit T if its taking a while), and click their name again.

Hi Sharan,
The reason the new version of BBM is not coming up for you is because it is not compatible with your device. The 8120 cannot run 6.x versions of BBM. Sorry about that.
