Sprint has quietly started rolling out OS 7.1 for both the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and the BlackBerry Torch 9850. My guess is that the Curve 9350 will probably follow up but maybe not today since mine is not showing an update. This OS version 7.1 adds Wi-Fi hotspot functionality along with loads of other fixes that RIM finally got around to.
To get the update just go to your Options –> Device –> Software update

As RIM is not listed, the assumption would be without:

Select Sprint from the list of carriers and then Bold 9930.

Receiving the official OTA 7.1 for the 9930 on Sprint. Just downloaded it and the software automatically backed up my BB. It says it will take a min of 2hrs for the update to complete.

I have just finished the update and there seems to be a noticeable speed difference in the browser. Not sure about the device yet. They also corrected some minor issues I had before. Where I couldn’t move some of the new app icons around. They also added Wifi Hot Spot (subscription require), Device Analyzer and payment options under device settings. I had to register all the apps I had and restore my settings. So make sure you backup your settings before upgrading it. The Upgrade really drained my battery, I would suggest charging it while it upgrades. You don’t want to brick your device. They also added BBM Music and Podcast which I can not delete right now.

So they want to charge extra for WiFi Hotspot? Man, that bites…
