I am not sure what took RIM months since DevCon to post up this video but its worth mentioning. Mathias and Fredrik from The Astonishing Tribe were showing off a Arduino platform board hooked up to a PlayBook over USB (it looks like its getting power that way too). RIM is showing this off as the PlayBook being perfect for tinkerers and prototypers but I know there are a good number of developers who want low level access to hardware like the USB, Bluetooth, and more. Alec Saunders confirmed as much in our recent interview with him.
The question is when this sort of access will come to the PlayBook OS 2.0 beta so devs can prepare it for the OS 2.0 launch. Hopefully RIM hits the gas and keeps on pushing out significant updates. Check out the full details on RIM’s DevBlog or in the video below:
