The day has finally come. Chase has released their Chase Mobile app for BlackBerry users (for a very limited number of devices). This new app lets you access your account AND deposit checks with your camera. It will also let you send payments and other features including:
- FIND US – Locate your nearest Chase branch or ATM quickly and easily.
- CONTACT US – Talk to our service representatives; they’re just a touch away.
- MAKE A DEPOSIT – With Chase QuickDeposit℠, you can save a trip to the bank. Simply make your deposit with two clicks of your BlackBerry smartphone camera.
- CHASE PERSON-TO-PERSON QUICKPAY℠ – Send money to nearly anyone with a U.S. bank account just by using an email address or mobile phone number.
- MANAGE ACCOUNT ALERTS** – Choose FREE Account Alerts to help you stay on top of your finances and monitor your account activity.
- SEE REWARDS – See your credit card and debit card rewards information
- BLUEPRINT – We’ve made it even easier to stick to your plan. Simply view and make your BLUEPRINT credit card payment from your BlackBerry.
There are a few gotchas like support for only 12 BlackBerry models at launch and check deposits not working on devices with 2MP or fixed focus cameras (9900/9930). Still its nice to see that it is finally here. My guess is it will keep on improving and support more devices hopefully very soon!

And here’s where RIMs hardware fragmentation decisions bite them in the ass again…
The main, flagship business devices won’t support this because of the fixed focus camera…

Yeah its a real pain in the ass. On the other hand I love how fast the 9900 takes pics… Sad to have to choose one or the other.

Yeah the shutter speed is real nice as long as you avoid macro shots. But they just need to learn that some sort of consistency across handsets (like how the 9850/9860 has a completely 1off screen resolution, or when the 9650 was introduced with opengl but then 9800 was not) only hurts their platform overall…

Wow! That check deposit feature is awesome! Only awesome if it works though.

Chase should have just developed the app with the approach of disabling the picture taking feature for deposits for fixed focus devices, not only BB9900 is affected but if they ever move to extending the app for other platforms there are several other fixed focus camera smartphones that will be affected.

I think you are all wrong. It is on the 9930, so I think it has nothing to do with the cam on the 9900. They are the same aren’t they?

Even if you installed it on the 9900/9930, i highly doubt the camera can take a good enough macro shot of the checks to actually pass… It often takes multiple attempts with good AF cameras, so…

I agree…lack of consistency and you’re right, the camera hardware is the same. I wonder if it has anything to do with any carrier influence? I emailed the Chase contact listed in BBAW today about Chase’s plans for extending the application on the 9900 and why it’s currently excluded, he ended up being the executive director of IT and didn’t have any information other than he was going to forward my email on to the appropriate support team.

“check deposits not working on devices with 2MP or fixed focus cameras (9900/9930)”
WRONG! I deposited a check last night with my 9930′s camera and it was accepted without any problems.
