AT&T & T-Mobile Now Considering Joint Venture

It seems like AT&T is stalwartly determined to make this deal with T-Mobile. According to the WSJ, AT&T is considering “forming a joint venture that would pool network assets from the two US wireless carriers.” This rumored joint venture could have AT&T using the T-Mobile spectrum that they want to badly though it is unclear if AT&T would still have to pay T-Mobile the $4 billion break up fee.

It should be interesting to see how this all plays out. I am not sure how AT&T will fool anybody into thinking that 3 large wireless carriers is better than 4 but who knows. On the other hand if the spectrum sharing between AT&T and T-Mobile went both ways that might be good news for both AT&T and T-Mobile customers. On the other hand that would require some new Quad-Band 3G BlackBerrys since T-Mobile BlackBerrys do not have AT&T 3G frequencies enabled and vise versa…
