PlayBook Screenshots Show BBM, Video Store, & Other Mystery Icons

PlayBook icons conundrum

The sharp eyes at noticed some interesting icons in the screenshots RIM was showing during their BlackBerry Mobile Fusion webcast yesterday. What they noticed first was what looks like a native BBM icon. The device shown is not connected to a bridge and has the regular bridge BBM icon in the bridge folder introduced in OS 2.0 but it has yet another BBM icon on the homescreen. Also of interest are icons for the previously announced Video Store, Twitter, and what looks like a new music icon. The Twitter icon could just be a website shortcut but the music icon looks like the iTunes icon we saw in the BlackBerry London mockups.

Anybody care to speculate further? 🙂 Thanks JD for the tip!

  1. Are you sure about the BBM icon? They do have their bluetooth on, and in comparing it to the icon on my Playbook with 1.0.8, they look the same.

  2. The two icons with red check marks next to them are Voice Notes and Slacker Radio. I don’t know how they got confused with something else.

  3. Unrelated but is there a way to make new folders on the playbook home screen ?

  4. give me now

  5. If you drag an icon on the frontpage on another, it will create a new folder with the two icons in it. You will be prompted to name the folder.

    • I like the folder functionality…but I hope RIM doesn’t get rid of the panes in OS 2.0. I love having all of my favorite apps on my “favorites” pane…it would be nice if the could be renamed, hid, or created….
