Will the PlayBook pick up a little TouchPad momentum this holiday season?

NPD group recently put out a report that claimed that the HP TouchPad has the second largest unit share in the tablet sphere after Apple’s iPad. AppleInsider wrote a post that (logically) theorized that that the marketshare is due directly to the TouchPad’s fire sale pricing earlier this year at $99. So my question is, will the PlayBook’s huge price drop encourage widespread adoption ala the TouchPad?

  1. I think so, provided they promote this properly. I’ve always felt PlayBook is a superior tablet to the iPad 2, but the iPad is more established and better marketed.

  2. They better put out every single PlayBook they have in stock and make a huge hit starting this Black Friday in the States.

  3. Anecdotal evidence so far points to yes…

  4. I don’t think so. A lot has changed since the Touchpad fire sale. There are a lot of tablets at $200-$300 now and that’s still twice the price of the Touchpad.

  5. Yes for sure. If you check with the stores in Canada, you will not find a single RIM playbook. They sold ourt immediately after being offered at the sale price. There are many upset people knowing that they cannot gets their hands on one. If Black Friday is anything like this past week in Canada, the problem will be supply. Come on RIM, get with it and get more playbooks intothe stores.
