There was a nice little present included in the BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK 2.0 Beta update today. RIM also started rolling out a new version of the BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS Beta (developer preview) that they first released at DevCon. BarracudaBob pointed out that once you register for the beta you will get a notification to download OS v2.0.0.4869 which is an update from the previous v2.0.0.3894.
Hopefully this update fixes the bridge issues with the previous update. This OS is intended for developers and not for end users but it sucks as a developer to have to cripple your device to use it for testing.
Hit that update button or register your PIN for the Developer Beta OS and let us know what you find!

yeah i’ve just finished downloading this new beta build. it’s a huge file with 456MB but i suppose big changes have been made under the hood, the browser feels much snappier, the transition between apps is now smoother and.. yeah, finally my playbook knows where i am and what time zone i am currently in!!!! the keyboard now has the clicking voice which is cool and.. the “return” key is replaced with the traditional enter symbol, nice job RIM!!
can’t wait to see the official release of OS 2.0!! bring it on RIM!!!

To get it to update faster just re-register your PIN where you previously registered. DM didn’t see it nor did the Check-for-updates button.
It’s not the fastest download on the planet, however…

the good:
*bridge seems to work though i had to launch bridge browser first before it would
*i’ll need to test it more but it may be that typing in a multi lime edit field in the browser finally doesnt suck
* spelling mistakes in browser fields no longer taunt you with red squiggly lines and no correction ability
the bad:
* so far none of my previously working android apps are working…

just to clarify – it’s the red squiggly line that’s been removed; neither spelling correction nor typing assist of any kind has been added.

Android apps are working great.. You just have to do a Security Wipe after you install the new OS..

I really don’t believe you need to do a Wipe.
It’s always a good idea to, however, just that you don’t NEED to.
My PB upgraded just fine.

Reports on the Crackberry threads (and from my own experience) are that you’ll have to do a Security Wipe after update to get Android apps working again.. Bummer..

Most of my Android applications worked fine after the first boot. Angry Birds, Google Maps. A couple didn’t for some reason.
As above: clicking on the “new messages” button top left of the screen doesn’t launch Bridge properly but opening the Bridge Folder allows you to connect to any of the applications just fine without the localhost:187 hack.

I have a little collection I’ve been using to test.
Please PM me and I’ll send a link.
There is a great collection of folks working full blast on testing these applications and porting them to the PB as fast as they can. There are some limitations, of course (it’s a beta after all) but I am not having issues worth whining about.

Hi
My pb now runs 2.0.0.7111. Upgrade took a few minutes. However, no mail, conracrs or calendar. is that to be expected?
