BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK 2.0 Beta & New OS 2.0 Simulator

 Native SDK 2.0 Beta

There has been quite a bit of good juju flowing towards Native SDK developers from RIM. The latest is a new public beta of Version 2.0 of the BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK. This new update also includes a new BlackBerry PlayBook Simulator that has OS 2.0 for those of you who don’t want to limit your PlayBook by running the beta 2.0 release.

This new 2.0 beta 1 release of the Native SDK includes:

  • Added Sensors API (magnetometer, gyroscope, and accelerometer support) (device only for now, not available for the simulator at this time)
  • Added Payment Service support for subscriptions and in-app purchasing
  • IDE improvements in usability, performance, and reliability
  • Scoreloop SDK 1.0 Beta 1 is included – try out some social game features for your apps, such as leaderboards

You can pick it up directly from RIM along with the simulator here

  1. Register and the beta is available. Downloading now.

  2. It’s great for both developers and consumer that this time RIM is releasing the SDK early enough.

Does anybody know if the gcc toolchain is present on the PlayBook? Can we just run a shell session and start compiling apps?
