RIM Using PlayBook OS 2.0 Update to Push Current PlayBooks

 PlayBook Email 2

I just got a new email from RIM pushing their buy two PlayBooks get one free deal for businesses and it had a new twist. RIM is now pushing the fact that you should buy the devices now so you get the bonus device and three free accessories and get “The Ultimate Upgrade” in “Early 2012” with PlayBook OS 2.0. I am not sure how good this three for two PlayBook deal is when they are selling for $199 each but still I found it interesting to see how RIM positions the PlayBook 2.0 update:

Coming early 2012, a free, over-the-air software upgrade with sophisticated features designed to change the way enterprises view and use tablets including:

  • Advanced, integrated email, calendar and contacts apps
  • Support for apps built for Android
  • Enhanced web browsing capabilities
  • Centralized and powerful device management features (Features require activation and provisioning with a BlackBerry server)

There’s no need to put off your purchase. Buy now to take advantage of this fantastic offer and then upgrade later for free.

Check out the rest of their messaging to business on their “PlayBook for Business” page.

  1. This is just pathetic!! They are acting as if this 2.0 update is some great and wonderful thing, when A) it should have had these features at launch and B) this “update” has been almost a year in the making!! Ridiculous!! Has RIM NO shame??

  2. I agree

  3. This has been a journey and I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Strange thing to say when the consumer has to take this level of involvement to fully enjoy a device that should just be plugged in and used. Perhaps I miss fooling w/ Ham and Shortwave Radios as a kid. Who knows. The 2.0 beta has been a joy and I’m having trouble sleeping anymore. The books to read sites to view videos to watch and new programs to play with are endless and they’re all wrapped up in this manageble personal sized little device. Yes this has not been well handled by RIM. I’m patient and for me the ride and the experience have all been worth it.

    • I agree, with all of it, even the part about HAM and SW radio, I still do that and I guess that’s a good analogy. When it finally works and you’ve got some built up anticipation of what it should be like, how great it will be, it’s all that much more rewarding knowing you stuck through the bumps in the road. I’m excited for the 2.0, but will the fun be over then? I think as a loyal blackberry user you get used to this. I wanted the 9900 about 5 years ago! The wait has been worth it tjo…
