RIM Official Statement on Today’s Outage Caused by “Global Internet Issue”

It looks like those issues many users were experiencing this morning may have nothing to do with RIM’s infrastructure or BIS NOCs. From what RIM is saying and other reports the issue seems to stem from ISP’s up and down stream from RIM beyond RIM’s networks. Here is their official statement:

November 7, 2011 – There was a global Internet issue this morning that impacted a number of Internet Service Providers (ISP) around the world. RIM’s BlackBerry Infrastructure was not impacted however, some customers may have experienced delays with their ISP. RIM continues to monitor the situation.

  2. I’m in CA. I have a Blackberry Torch, which didn’t go out in Oct. But today, it’s as dead as a doorknob. I can’t even get the time on it. As you can see my internet works fine.

  3. I bought a new mini usb wifi from Optus, my Australian telco, on Saturday arvo – and couldn’t install it till after midnight because the server Optus uses for whatever to do with my registration etc went off the air for 12 hours.

    Yeah, no world press announcement and demands for money back etc ….

  4. Also, the previous Sunday I went into the Optus store to try and buy said device, but the software that controls all the cash registers, state wide, were down and therefore for the whole day Optus could not sell 1 thing.

    That’s right – NO Optus sales because the software that controls the cash registers went bung!!

    Optus is the No. 2 telco/isp in Australia!

    Grrrrrrr ……
